What caused the TFE and Kynar- PVDF long lead times

During the last year, the market has experienced more shortages than I've come across in my three decades experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have witnessed several shortages, and delivery problems on account of resin allocations by plastic resin companies. This is actually the very first occasion I have seen all these issues at one time.

PTFE Sheet (TFE) and PVDF are both on allocation.

These two resins are in short supply. The  PTFE Sheeting product PTFE (TFE) and Kynar-PVDF  manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The world demand for this mineral has risen significantly, and also the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and very low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is utilised in tons of applications from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for use at home. This specific mineral is a important raw materials within the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and many refrigerants. This increase in demand paired with shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double during the last year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to keep at it in the near future.
