PTFE (TFE) and PVDF both are experiencing long lead times.
PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene product PTFE (TFE) as well as PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar which is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide requirement for this mineral has risen significantly, and the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and extremely low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilised in tons of applications from non-stick fry kitchenware to ptfe tape for use at home. This particular mineral is a critical raw materials in the manufacturing of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and several refrigerants. This increased demand joined together with shortage of raw materials has caused a dramatic price increase (almost double during the last year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to keep at it in the near future.
